Plant and Soil Sensing Technologies

  • PlantMap3D

Our device uses inexpensive, off-the-shelf camera technology and open-source software to generate maps of plant species, their biomass, and their density in real time.

  • Agricultural Image Repository

Using our BenchBot and other technology, we’re compiling thousands of high-resolution images of cash crops, weeds, and cover crops, plus metadata about them. Together, they inform our sensors and tools that help farmers make real-time, data-driven management decisions.

  • Remote Sensing

We use satellite and Earth-bound sensing platforms to research cover crop adoption and performance and to guide adaptive management practices.

  • Soil Moisture Technologies

Our StressCam is an open-source, low-cost, stationary, continuous monitoring tool that calculates the water stress in corn and soybeans. Our Water Sensors use cellular technology to collect soil water data throughout the growing season at four depths.
